The aim of the programme was to encourage new entrants to food and farming and to increase the sustainability and success of enlightened agriculture.
How did it work?
The Challenge sought to provide 7-10 projects with matched funding of between £2,000 to £6,000 per project. Participating projects crowdfunded for a proportion of their overall funding target and whatever the projects raised The A Team Foundation matched it (up to £6,000). The selection panel and each participating project agree on the matched offer before crowdfunding begins.
FEA and Buzzbnk worked with projects to help them develop a realistic financing plan, including a specific target and timescale for their crowd funding campaign. Buzzbnk also ran workshops to help projects plan their campaign.
The funding from The A Team Foundation was structured either as a grant or as repayable finance. This was decided on a case by case basis and the terms for any repayment (if applicable) were agreed with each project individually, based on the business plans they submitted.
The A Team Challenge ran three rounds of funding in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Find out about the projects that took part here.
